Astronaut Memorial

Alongside the inspiring space mission recounts of the Kennedy Space Center, is the powerful presence of the mirror Astronaut Memorial to those lost in the space quest over the years of the US and NASA program.

The reflective granite on the front of the massive transmission plate displays the 24 names of the men and women lost to the United States space program, and is a strong reminder of might and dangers of these missions.

Being too young to actually see and experience the moon landing missions, my memory recalls the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster more readily, which was in 1986. The memorial also remembers those lost to the Space Shuttle Columbia in 2003, and that first failed Apollo 1 shuttle.
